Homejoy, part of the wave of on-demand, convenience startups that set out to disrupt an entire sector — in this case, maid services for homes and businesses — is putting down the broom and calling it quits.
The San Francisco-based company, which launched in 2013, announced today it would shut down July 31. Its demise can be attributed to a few factors: difficulty in raising new funds, an inability to sell itself to a rival and the growing fight over how its cleaning crews should be categorized.
